There is no single path into the Workday ecosystem.

Dana Nairn started in HR, moved into payroll and benefits, gained PeopleSoft experience, and eventually worked on a Workday implementation.

From there, she kept building.

She worked for Workday customers, moved into consulting, and eventually launched Authentik Consulting.

Her story is a reminder that careers usually grow one experience at a time.

If you want to move into Workday, start with what you already know.

Maybe that is payroll, benefits, recruiting, finance, HR, or another business function.

Find a company using Workday where those skills matter.

Then raise your hand.

Volunteer for testing, enhancements, training, or project work.

Sometimes you volunteer your way into a job.

Dana and I also discussed the difference between customer and consulting roles.

Customer-side teams understand the daily reality of supporting Workday.

Consultants gain exposure to more organizations, industries, and ways of solving problems.

Both perspectives are valuable.

The larger lesson is this:

You get to choose.

You can choose a role that helps you learn faster, gives you more stability, or better fits the current season of your life.

Just make sure the pace is sustainable.

In this episode of Workday Gold, Dana and I talk about career growth, consulting, burnout, and building a Workday career that fits your values.
