Workday customers are at an interesting crossroads. On one hand, the platform keeps expanding with powerful standard functionality. On the other, organizations are facing real-world problems that don’t always fit neatly into the box.
In this episode of Workday Gold, I sat down with Rick Leunisse, co-founder of Incubane, to talk about what’s actually changing in the Workday ecosystem, and what’s already real today.
One of the biggest takeaways is that successful Extend and agent solutions don’t start with technology. They start with understanding Workday deeply. Knowing the data model, security, and functional gaps allows teams to extend Workday in ways that feel native, not bolted on.
We also talked about why agents are getting so much attention, and why many customers feel stuck. The issue isn’t interest, it’s uncertainty. Governance, architecture, and skills all matter. That’s why Rick and his team created an Agent Strategy Blueprint (available via their posts on LinkedIn) focused on helping organizations move forward responsibly.
Another key theme was Workday’s recent acquisitions, Sana, Flowise, and Pipedream. While they can feel overwhelming at first, together they point to a future where Workday becomes easier to use, easier to integrate, and more conversational for employees and managers.
Finally, we explored how the Workday skillset itself is changing. Configuration, integrations, and even support won’t disappear, but how we do them will evolve. Learning how to design workflows that include agents will become just as important as designing business processes today.
If you’re curious about where Extend, agents, and AI are headed in the Workday ecosystem, this conversation will help separate what’s real from what’s hype.
